# re: Blazers' #1 Pick, Greg Oden, To Miss Season After Microfracture Surgery

This is a real downer for all NBA fans. I was so looking forward to Oden compete in the League. He showed promise in college, but really never was in that great of shape. Yes, he had a wrist injury, but I think people looked more at his upside and potential than at his actual play and performance. Looking at his face he looks like he's in his 40s. Same goes for the rest of his body, I guess. With any luck, everything will work out and a rested and healthy Oden will make a splash in the 2008-2009 season. My money, however, is on Blazer fans wishing the team had taken Durant when they had the chance.

Shawn Marion has been my favorite Sun for years. I am so proud of him, his attitude, his dimeaner.....a real role model, as are many of the Suns. My very favorite thing on tv, is to watch a Suns game. I am almost 80 yrs. old and no, I'm not a man. Please don't go Shawn, I need you and my great grand kids need you. Jj

Shawn Marion! I LOVE YOU IN PHOENIX :)YOU HAVE SO MUCH ENERGY AND PASSION WHEN YOU PLAY. I LOVE WATCHING YOU! I DON'T SEE WHY IT SHOULD MATTER IF YOU DON'T GET THE PAY RAISE OR THE EXTENDED CONTRACT IMMEDIATLY. I THOUGHT JUST BEING ABLE TO PLAY BASKETBALL IS MORE IMPORTANT THEN THE MONEY OR WHAT TEAM YOU'RE ON. I DON'T WANT TO SEE YOU GO TO ANY OTHER TEAM BECAUSE YOU'RE MY FAVORITE PLAYER AND I JUST CAN'T SEE YOU LEAVE. I WILL CRY ;( EXSPECIALLY IF YOU GO TO THE LAKERS. JUST THINK ABOUT WHAT I SAID. I NEED TO MEET YOU BEFORE YOU LEAVE PHOENIX BECAUSE THAT IS MY DREAM! LOVE YOU AND GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR DECISSION. YOU WILL ALWAYS BE MY FAVORITE PLAYER.

If Marion leaves Phoenix he wont be as successful with another team. And thats just the plain truth. DOnt get me wrong, i love shawn!  Ive been a Suns fan for many many moons and i dont want him to leave at all.  This is our year to win the finals.  Shawn, think about what you're doing to this team, you're part of this core!  Dont break it up over some stupid rumors!  Obviously they would've traded you a long time ago, if they wanted to.  STAY IN PHOENIX AND GET THAT RING YOU'VE BEEN WORKING SO HARD FOR....CUZ WE ALL KNOW YOU WONT GET IT ANYWHERE ELSE!  PEACE AND LOVE! I saw this guy at the POST magazine launch party last season (BTW POST is a fraud magazine) but this guy is a classic bottom feeder acting like a big shot fluffing Shawn Marion all night and acting like shawns personal waitress...thank god the suns woke up and traded this loser...dude, when you are an occasional player (5 min per game) dont act like your a 1st teamer and down normal guys who are around you, fans make it possible for your over inflated salery and dont forget it the next time your in public. This guy truly is an Irish dueche bag. Every other true Irishman I know is like the salt of the earth and I would buy them a guiness and salute that great country you swear your from. Now that you join the list of practice squad standouts on the Warriors where you belong I am thankful for one thing, the only time I will see you out in PHX again is on the bench when you play the suns....right where you belong.

Dear Shawn

Look man, i no that ur probably under circumsatances that we dont know of but if u think that ur not wanted in the suns, then u couldnt b more wrong. You r the most versatile player on phoenix, best all round defender as well. Very few are gifted with the speed that you have, you score about 18pts and round 12 boards a game. STAT cant do everything himself anf youre a killer on the fast break. Now, its your choice if u wanna b traded, but if ur doing it cuz u think ur unwanted then thats not right. There wouldnt be a PHX BIG 3 without u.

Hope u stay in the suns man

# re: Possible Kobe Bryant Trade Scenarios

When I messed around with the Trade Machine, I found two possible three way deals, sending Kobe out of conference (Lakers' brass priority) and obliging with the Matrix' trade demand. Phoenix sends Marion to LA in each deal, and gets Sam Dalembert and Andre Igoudala back in one, with LA also getting Kyle Korver, and Philly bringing back hometown hero Kobe. In the other deal, Phoenix gets Michael Redd from Milwaukee, and Milwaukee gets Kobe. Draft picks can offset any further imbalances.

# re: Possible Kobe Bryant Trade Scenarios

kobe needs to shut up and play.  yeah it sucks but there are a lot of other "unhappy players" who still attend practice and team functions.  yeah maybe your situation is unfair and sucks but sometimes you got to grow up and show some maturity; which probably would have precipitated a deal w/chicago.  will he get traaded?  yeah probably so in the next couple of months.  some team will undoubtedly chase him but but most llikely not chicago.

What was interesting was that with about a minute left, and down by six or seven, Phoenix just gave up. They didn't foul. They let the Lakers run the clock down, thus cementing their win. Up until their giving in, it was a fun game to watch, though. A lot of alley oops.

I'm sorry, Ginobili and Parker have missed too much time to be considered.  Duncan is good enough to represent the Spurs.

Baron Davis and Camby are both pretty big omissions, but who do you replace?  If you take out Boozer, an argument could be made for Deron Williams.

# re: No-Shaq-No... Suns Talking Marion for O'Neal Swap

I can't see any team taking Shaq unless they have zero chance of winning anytime soon, have the same length or longer contracts on the books for non-productive players, and simply hope Shaq's presence will bolster ticket sales. But even that's a stretch, seeing as Shaq wasn't voted or chosen to participate in this year's All Star game (for the first time in 15 years).

Shaq's contract is too big. He's too old and too slow, especially for the Suns or any other up-tempo team. I hope Shaq stays put in Miami and hangs it up after this season. His sun has set. The NBA's in the capable hands of LeBron, Wade, Carmello, Kobe (for a few more years), Dwight Howard, and Chris Paul.

I'm a Lakers fan and not only do I think this deal is insane, I'd actually feel bad for Suns fans if this deal went down. And I've got plenty of animosity towards Suns fans about that book, Kobe getting assaulted on court, smug attitudes, no defense Nash winning MVP twice, and just in the interest of good rivalries. This deal is just wrong and not fair. Suns fans may deserve a little bad karma, but this is straight up wrong. Good luck. Had Bynum not come through and we'd gotten Gasol as well I might feel a little differently, but I suspect I'd still feel horrible at the prospect of you guys having to go through this sort of thing.

# re: No-Shaq-No... Suns Talking Marion for O'Neal Swap

Hi I thinks Shaq will be a hindrance to the Suns, he cannot run, he always injured. And he was mean to his wife. I thought the Suns did not like people who mistreat their families. I agree that you need a big man, but Shaq is not that guy. The Sun will be taking on a big contract, just like they did with Penny Hardaway, with no production.

This loss, & the Acq of Shaq, now official, will always be linked in my mind. After this game my head & gut both said - somethin's gotta change. Key 'statement' game, right. & no TP. & natn'l TV. & the irony, only Marion impressed. Half-court offense so ugly. Has 7 sec Run-n-Gun gassed out? Here's hoping not. Can't you do it w/ 4? & more DRB outlets from Shaq?

# re: No-Shaq-No... Suns Talking Marion for O'Neal Swap

Latest loss to SA made crystal clear: Suns could never get past them in playoffs. You can see this as exactly right solution for that problem, if Shaq healthy. But it's not guaranteed. Plus, isn't it subtraction vs. others, esp. Mavs. Hmmm . . . like the change v. Lakers & Jazz too, come to think of it. If we can somehow keep the 7-sec run-n-gun . . . more DRB outlets, Amare free to break . . . . INTERIOR DEFENSE. (say what ??). Could almost talk myself into this.

Shaq for Marion. It's like this it's an end to what was amazing play to watch to now return to ball just like eveyone else. Who will be the next one to leave PHX? Why in the beginning did they just not trade Banks instead of Thomas? I'm sorry PHX is getting too many older players, do we need a change in the head office instead?

KG to miss the All-Star Game - will be replaced by the red-hot Pistons' Rasheed Wallace. (And no, Rasheed isn't on fire, his team is).

Seriously, this is the best guy they could find as a replacement?  Let's start putting the best players, regardless of conference in if this is the best they can do.

Ray Allen from the Celtics has been chosen by David Stern as a replacement for Caron Butler, who is also injured.

# re: Suns not faring so well against NBA's elite

1. It's "faring", not "fairing". Spelling may not be that important, but at least get it right in the headline. 2. First you say Nash is trying to work Shaq in by shooting less, and then you say he isn't pulling his weight because he hasn't scored well the last two games. Contradicts. 3. If the Suns are "a power", and they are, then the Hornets have to be considered one also.
Thursday, March 06, 2008 6:41 PM by chowell

# re: Suns not faring so well against NBA's elite

Carl - Thanks for pointing out the spelling error.  It's been fixed!

In regards to the comments on Nash... He can still try to get the other players involved and not carry his weight IMHO.  They need to score more or play better defense; two things Nash has been struggling with (the defense for a long time).  Steve is still getting about the same number of assists w/ O'Neal on the team, so he's distributing just fine - he needs to shoot the ball.

Nash needs to start playing his style of ball and letting Shaq figure it out as they move along.  Shaq is playing fine... they need to quit trying to use him on the screen/rolls and get him out of Nash's path to the basket.

The loss last night against the Nuggets was embarrassing.

# re: Suns Win 1st Game of Doubleheader vs. Nuggets

The Nuggets have a tough road ahead to make the playoffs, as do the Warriors and Mavericks.

Dallas is close to getting Nowitzki back, although he won't be playing tonight.  They have a couple tough games including the Suns, Lakers, Jazz, Hornets and Warriors.  Of course, they have some gimmies as well in the Supersonics (twice) and against Portland.

The Warriors face the Mavs, Hornets, Nuggets and Suns, w/ gimmies against the Grizzlies, Kings, Clippers and Supersonics.

The Nuggets have remaining; Warriors, Jazz and Rockets.  Gimmies include Kings, Supersonics, Clippers, Grizzlies.

I see the Mavs finishing 4-4, Warriors finishing 6-1 (or 6-2), and the Nuggets finishing 5-2.  Of course, this puts the Mavs out of the playoffs.

Looks like I was wrong... Mavs clinched a playoff berth late last week, while the Nuggets appear close to securing their spot.  The Warriors have struggled and look like the odd-team out.

# re: Suns Preparing for Battle w/ Spurs in Round 1

Wow, what a Game 1!! I'd be thrilled if the remaining games in this series are only half as exciting as Game 1. How about that 3 from Steve Nash in the corner to tie it at the end? Amazing. Pistons or Lakers fans might have had a flashback to the 1987 NBA Finals when Isaiah Thomas hit a fall away 3 in the same spot to get to 24 points of individual scoring in the 3rd quarter on a bum leg (if I'm remembering correctly). But how could they let Manu make his drive and get his shot off? You've got to make someone else hit that shot. Wow. Simply amazing.

# re: Suns Breakdown Late, Fail to Close (Twice) in 2OT Loss

Would it have made sense for the Suns to call a timeout after Manu's bucket in the second OT (a la the 3OT game in the 1976 NBA Finals)? Yes, I know they didn't have any timeouts left, so calling one would have resulting in a technical foul and a free throw for San Antonio, but wouldn't the Suns then be able to inbound the ball at halfcourt? They would have had a full two seconds to get the ball in, square up, and get a three point attempt off to send it to a third OT.

# re: Suns mistakes cost them game & season

Sure, it was a tough loss to the Spurs. Plus, losing 4-1 in the series made it seem like the Suns didn't put up much of a fight. But, I thought the Suns lost that series in the first game. They had game 1 in hand down the stretch and let San Antonio back in it. Phoenix has to learn how to go for the jugular when they have a good team down - especially a championship calibur team like the Spurs. As for next season, I for one hope the Suns maintain most of their current roster. Just add some more depth in the offseason. Giving away Kurt Thomas to the Sonics last offseason really came back to bite them. I know the team was somewhat strapped financially. But, you don't make a trade like that if you're REALLY serious about winning it all. Though I think they should not break up the roster... I do think they should go in a dfferent direction with the coaching staff. Mike D'Antoni is a good coach with lots of experience (mostly in Italy, however). But, I'm always amazed and disappointed by how much he screams at the refs - all game long, every game. If the Suns can hire someone who's a little more low-key during games - and someone who can really command the respect of the players... then I think that would be a move in the right direction.

# re: Suns mistakes cost them game & season

I like D'Antoni but there are problems. Defense and perhaps a better intergration of SHAQ and team strategy. You have an aging Steve Nash AND Shaq so breaking up the team or trying to rebuild would be a bad move IMHO. Even though Shaquille O'Neal may play only one or two more years he should spend the next six months shooting foul shots. Make a change-win one more championship!

# re: NBA Report: Mike D'Antoni to Coach New York Knicks

It's unfortunately that the Suns lost D'Antoni - he's a great coach. The only upside here is that it happened sooner rather than later. Better to know you need to find a replacement now, then have three to five months of on again, off again agreements, only to have to find a coach at the last minute (which was the recipe for the San Diego Chargers last year when the fired Marty AFTER all of the available "top prospect" coaches had already joined other teams). I wonder what will happen in NYC. I can't see the Knicks escaping the crushing pressure of their salary cap issues anytime soon. I think Mike's just taking the money here, and will have a few miserable years. If he's smart, he'll pull a Larry Brown, coach for just a year, get the hell out of Dodge, and then demand the rest of his contract money.

I've been a Phx Suns fan for over 30 years bec I grew up in AZ. However, it's time to change bec of Steve Kerr. Bringing in Shaq was as stupid a deal as you could imagine. And now he drives Mike away as coach. What next ... forcing Steve Nash to retire. Kerr needs to go back to his TV job before there is no saving the Suns! I too am a UofA alum, and have always supported Kerr, but he is out of his element. Leave the gen mgr duties to someone with the right talent. PLEASE get rid of Steve Kerr before it's too late!!!

# re: NBA Report: Mike D'Antoni to Coach New York Knicks

I think it really is a shame that D'Antoni is out. I do think that it would have been possible to win one championship playing their style of basketball, but to do so they would have needed to make all of the right moves in free agency and with their trades. Unfortunately, I just don't think they did that and now they are in a bit of trouble. Also, I heard that Marc Jackson could be the next coach. Thoughts?

# re: Allen Iverson Trade - Billups/McDyess Involved in Nuggets/Pistons Deal

I think it is a good trade for both teams, Denver didn't have the formula to compete in the West. Even with Iverson & Carmelo running the show, however I don't think Iverson was the problem in the Mile High. But adding Billups, and McDyess(if he decides to play) is a little bit of an upgrade at the point guard position. Iverson on the other hand collaborating with all-star Rip Hamilton, former all-star Rasheed Wallace, and should be all-star Tayshaun Prince. Is cause for a lot of excitement in the Motor City, just the thought of that line-up is giving me crazy thoughts of Iverson finally getting closer to that elusive ring. It will still be a tough road for both teams, but I'm excited to see the Answer back in the east.!!! Good Luck A.I.

This trade tilts in the favor of Denver. With a pass-first point guard like Billups, they'll be more balanced as a unit. Iverson's toughness will be missed, but Billups leadership is unquestionable. -Peter Robert Casey

# re: Allen Iverson Trade - Billups/McDyess Involved in Nuggets/Pistons Deal

I like the trade, both teams have other holes to fill on their roster, but Denver needed that true point guard to get the offense going. And they found one in Chauncey Billups, who is a little slower these days. But Billups understands the game at that position, and with J.R. Smith improving his game, Billups will fit in nicely with Carmelo & Co. Now with the Pistons getting Iverson, I definitely like it. The Answer returns to the East but with an all new cast that can defend. this ain't the 2001 MVP Iverson but you can never count him out. I think this is just what he needs to rejuvenate his career, he may be on the downside of his career but he still gives 110% anytime he's on the floor. And with Detroit known for their defense, I think A.I. will pick up on that as well. His role is different now, but come playoff time watch out!.

# re: Suns Trade DJ Strawberry to Rockets for Sean Singletary

It would be very interesting if the Suns give Singletary an opportunity to get some minutes. He is a gutsy point guard who knows how to win. Ask anyone who had to guard him in the ACC for four years. Allan Iverson has shown that height is not the end-all be-all factor in determining if a guy can be successful in the NBA.

Let's see...as a result of all the commotion, the Suns give Sean Singletary a little playing time and what do we see? 43 minutes in three games and ZERO turnovers. 2 for 4 from 3pt land 3 offensive rebounds, 4 defensive rebounds 5 assists 2 personal fouls Once he bumps up his overall shooting percentage (3-14 so far) I think this guy can really be a valuable role player for the Suns. The best part is - the guy has guts.

# re: Suns Facing Tough Times After 4th Straight Loss

You're right Joe, Dirk does rebound more than Amare, but only this year. This year, Dirk is up on Amare about 1 per game.

The past 2 seasons, Amare has averaged about 0.75 more rebounds per game than Nowitzki.

About Dirk not sulking or giving up... let's look back at the Mavs playoff failures.

Here's what up... Amare is frustrated and wants to be included in the offense more consistently - who wouldn't?  Let's not focus on the stats just yet, since he's only played 20 games.  He should be measured by what he does over the course of the entire season.

# re: Suns Lose on Granger's Last Second 3-Pointer

I thought the refs did a great job officiating. It was a well deserved win for the Pacers. Danny Granger was a steal for them. Amare S. is waaaay overrated. Seriously. He has no skill, he just likes to bump and push his way in. Then he gets fouled coz he's an all star. He can jump high. That's it, any fool can do that.
Thursday, January 08, 2009 10:43 AM by chowell

# re: Suns Lose on Granger's Last Second 3-Pointer

Jay - Definitely agree w/ you on the refs.  I suggested that the play was physical, but evenly called.

As far as Amare goes, I think your comments are great, but I don't agree w/ them entirely. He can shoot from outside, drive to the hole and finish plays.  He often gets stuck in bad situations and turns the ball over and/or commits a charge, but otherwise is a solid offensive player. (let's not get started on the defense)

What has impressed me lately about Stoudemire is his ability to pass the ball. Even earlier this year, he would hardly ever pass, even if he was double or triple teamed.  The past few weeks have seen a big turnaround in my opinion.  STAT is passing for winning shots, passing out of bad situations and apparently trusting his teammates more.

Thanks for commenting.

The person in the Suns organization that needs to be traded is Steve Kerr. He has taken the exciting team that was once one crooked official away from a championship season and turned it into a slow plodding team structured around an aging Shaq.  The results of his schemes have not panned out and don't appear to have much of a future.

# re: Amare Stoudemire Subject of Trade Rumors

Phoenix waited too long to trade Amare. He was "worth" much more two or even one year ago and they could have gotten much more in return. For most teams I'd wager that there was little chance that such a trade would go through - they'd want too much and be offered too little - but this Suns team has shown over the past few years that they will not hesitate to make a trade that leaves us casual fans scratching our heads and wondering why.

# re: Amare Stoudemire Subject of Trade Rumors

Steve Kerr is an idiot. Shaq was a great player, but hes aged and to base his offense around such a slow lugging player (dont even mention the defense or lack there of), just goes against what the suns have set up through the past 5 to six years. LeAndro Barbosa is the last remnance of the old quick spark suns that used to just blitz it down the court, and even he isn't his usual self when stupid Terry Porter doen't see that the most effective are the older cats in the line-up ie; Nash, Barbosa, Hill and Stoudamire. Shaq just a good-looking side show who is just spicing it up when they win but disappears from conversation when they lose. Get rid of Steve Kerr, Terry Porter, put Shaq on the bench get a younger big player to post up and offer STAT more to keep him happy. I'd also chuck Barbosa in more the guys poison against any defense.

The defense is the most glaring change in the Suns recently - they just haven't had the same intensity as they did when the season started. No individual player is responsible for the change, but they need to get back to shutting teams down in the 4th quarter. Against NY & Cleveland, however, they needed some defensive stops in the 1st & 2nd quarters to prevent getting down by so many points.
